I'm not sure if the school can formally allow it, as due to new regulations they can't allow leave of absence on the days around the school holidays. However, I wouldn't worry, my mother took me out of school one day before the Christmas holidays because my cousin was getting married. We contacted the school in the correct way and my head of year said that the school could not formally authorise it, but to go and have fun anyway and not worry. Also, as your daughter is in reception they won't mind. Schools often have forms if you want to apply for absence leave, which needs to be completed and handed in at reception.

I've been struggling with my weight for the past couple of years. I've always been fit, but I put on about 60 pounds throughout university. I really struggled this past year and I've been doing a lot of nothing. Why doesn't my computer or camera recognize my SD card?

On my camera i had 1400 pictures and had recently added to it so i tried to download them to my computer and i took the card out without safely removing it and now computer does not read it at all and my camera says the card is not formatted. Really need help with my iPod touch? Please!!!?

Ok, I dropped my itouch in the pool (yea I know..) and I immedietly put it in rice for 3 days. I just plugged it in and plugged it inot my lapotop( also an apple, macbook pro) and itunes says it will not show up on itunes (my ipod is not recognized) because it is locked with a passcode. Could be several things. One of your memory ports could be bad. The memory stick itself could be bad. You could have something in the bios adjusted with respect to memory..or you could be running an operating system that only recognizes that much ram. May need a techie to figure that one out.

Orange light on my Canon SX20 Camera?

I tried to upload photos today on my computer from my camera, but for some reason when I connected the cable from my camera to the computer, my computer couldn't recognize anything. I noticed that whenever I turn my camera on, there is an orange light instead of a green light. And when I plug it in, it turns into a green light. Normally, it would be switched around - green when it's turned on, and orange when it's connected to my computer. Why has it done this?

You are right only you didn't mention a hard drive caddy or connector. The last compaq I had used a hard drive caddy (interna hdd enclosure) to connect the hdd and an hp pavillion I have sitting around uses a connector for the pins to slide it into place. So I put in my mic to talk on Skype and after I took my mic out my speakers wouldn't work on youtube. I tested my speakers on skype, they're still on and working, but for some reason youtube doesn't seem to be recognizing them. Any ideas as to what is going on, or how to fix it?

Whats wrong with my laptop?

I have a MacBook laptop purchased in 2009 so it is relatively new. I spilled a little bit of water on it about a month ago. The numbers on my keyboard work and so do all of the top buttons but most of the keys on the keyboard dont work. When I start a game though (The Sims 3) my keyboard works in the cheat bar so I know it recognizes the buttons that I am pushing. Also it makes a beep sound when I press the buttons. Is this a software problem or will it require a hardware repair?

Irregular Period Cycle. What does it mean?

I got my first period probably 3 years ago, for the first 3-4 months it was normal, and then it just didnt get it for around 7 months. I wasnt too worried, because it isnt too unusual for that to happen, but then it came 2 months in a row and it was absent for another 5-6 months. Don't worry, I would have the same reaction but later I would research it and find out the idea behind it. I think, in my opinion, that art is a way to express how the person feels. In history, people used art all the time to get their idea across. Its kind of like a code of how to express your feelings and also to send a message. Idk what message the artists were trying to send but for the mirror I think its a great piece of art because whoever looks into it sees themselves. I'm totally 50/50 on this and having trouble making this decision. My daughters father is absent from her life (his own choice, rubbish excuse). Teaching children to read: whole word vs phonics.....help!?

I'm having trouble understanding phonics. I understand how whole word methods work, and that they can cause advancement very young (see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1OdBcNAfIw). But I've also read that children can become confused by whole word when they're older as they are just memorising the shape of the word. My question is, how does a child learn the alphabet with phonics? Surely they just learn that each letter makes a sound. If you show them a "b" and make a "buh" noise, won't they recognise "b" to be "buh" and not the actual letter? I'm specifically referring to when teaching children from a very young age when they won't know any better, like in the above video.

Was it fair that my teacher marked me absent?

Today was the second to last day of school and I was in 5th period orchestra. I had to go to the bathroom really bad (my bladder was seriously about to pop) by the end of class, but my teacher was in her private office testing students for orchestra next year and I didn't want to interupt so I ran to the bathroom. By the time I was done the bell had rung so I left. I was only gone 3, 4 minutes tops. Anyways, in that short amount of time I was gone, for the first time all year she decided to leave her office and take roll at the END of class. I was marked absent and the school called my mom. I quickly emailed my teacher explaining to her that I didn't ditch. I am a good student and I have an A+ in her class, but she wouldn't budge and told me that she would not clear the absence. If I don't get the absence cleared, I will have to serve an after school detention at the beginning of my senior year. 37 weeks pregnant and idk if its labor or not...?

I am a few days away from being 38 weeks pregnant and have been experiencing this horrible horrible pain and pressure in my abdomen and lower back. Okay, so I'm in eighth grade, and had everything figured out, as of yesterday. I liked Nate, and everything was good and decided. Having an Dell Inspiron 1525 Windows Vista Premium, how can I get the Wi-Fi sofware? because I need internet.?

I really don't know if this laptop has Wi-Fi, but I installed a software to check and then from my Android LG cellphone I tried to take the signal on my laptop, but there's something wrong here. One testicle feels mushy !?

Let me explain. Both of my testicles feel normal, and I don't think I have any bumps on them, certainly not any hard ones. However, I have a question regarding my left testicle, and I'm not sure if this is a stupid question, but I don't want to risk my health. In my scrotum on the left side, not on my testicle but basically above it, it feels very mushy. It feels like there are large soft veins on that side of the scrotum, yet the other is absent of this. My left testicle hands lower than my right testicle as well. I've checked the symptoms of testicular cancer, and I have none of them, but is this something I should worry about or is it completely normal and what does it mean?

Manycam and integrated webcams?

I am trying to use the manycam program with my Dell laptop with built in webcam. The program works just fine as long as I am not streaming live. I would like to use the program while streaming live on certain websites, but I can't seem to figure out how to change the settings on my webcam itself so that said websites will recognize my cam. I can stream without the program, but would like to use the program so people can't steal my video and reproduce else where. Any ideas what I'm not doing right?? How do you get music off you 4G Touch to the computer?

I missed last day of school?

You don't really do much except for fun activities. I missed the last 3 days of school and it was fine. It probably does count towards your attendance, but so what? Attendance isn't that important i think. For this school year I missed atleast 20 days because I travel a lot for competitions.

Why my child hates school?

I had a very similar problem this year. I was constantly being bullied at my private school, and I felt like nobody would give me the time of day. I went home to my room and cried every day. It was around February when I finally broke down and told my parents that I wanted to go back to the public school. My dad flipped out when I told him that I didn't have any friends, and the thought that I wanted to go back because I wasn't "popular" at my new school (Even though I wasn't popular at my old school.. I had lots of friends, but I was far from the "popular" status, but I was fine with it). Similarly, he yelled at me and told me that I would have to deal with situations like this later on in life, and that it was all my fault that I didn't have friends because I wasn't trying hard enough. It was about a month later that he finally began to understand that I was being bullied, and hated the environment there. Try asking your daughter what is bothering her. If she says "Nothing", then say something like "I don't understand why you stay home all the time. You clearly are uncomfortable with school, and if you tell me what is going on, then we can try to make something work, and I can either help you with the situation or stay out of it." Her biggest fear might be that you will get involved, and the other students will think "Oh haha look, there's Nicole. Her mom tried to rescue her from high school life" or something. I know that was one of my fears. If you finally get to talk to her, and switching schools isn't an option, suggest she get involved in sports or activities. If she still has no luck at school-based sports or activities, sign her up for sports in your town, dance classes, art classes, etc. Even if she is still having a hard time at her school, it can be so much easier when you have friends in other places. I hope that this helps, and your daughter feels better soon. If this doesn't help and you have tried everything, then I would look into getting a counselor. I wish you the best of luck :)

Is it better to have no father at all, or have one that is barely there & not a good person?

Fathers day is tomorrow, & I have a 10 month old without one. I always said she doesn't need a dad, blah blah, but it's starting to hit me, seeing these teen girls with teen dads who love their babies. I was so selfish, I needed to have my daughter, despite knowing that hed be absent early on. But i'm starting to freak out more and more as the days go by that my child does not have any father, let alone ANY strong male influence, or any other strong influence at all. I became pregnant at 18 & my childs father abused me physically & mentally. He has 5 other kids, and i watched him tell off his 13 year old when she asked him to do christmas for her & her brother. He spit on me, pushed me, & told me he was going to trip me on my stomach just for trying to be equal in his conversations (thats what everything rooted from, him trying to show everyone that I was his little puppet.. hed do these things in front of people). The numerous stories are too detailed and long to explain. I feel terrible, I have given my child no options, either a dad who is garbage and I am positive will give her a void that she tries to fill with other garbage men, or none at all. By the way, he CLAIMS he wants to meet her but everytime ive tried (3 times) hes disappeared on judgment day, popping up months later saying it's my fault. I dont know what he wants. He told me the other day he wants to sign over rights because ill never let him meet her, & i kept telling him what do you mean ive tried. He then asked me, what do you want me to do, & i said i dont care. I actually felt happy that I wouldnt have to deal with him in the future. No one understands or gets it.
