Why doesn't my computer or camera recognize my SD card?

On my camera i had 1400 pictures and had recently added to it so i tried to download them to my computer and i took the card out without safely removing it and now computer does not read it at all and my camera says the card is not formatted. Ive tried to recover it with programs but it just doesn't recognize it. Does any one now how to get the pictures back?
