Should I make my daughters father pay?

I'm totally 50/50 on this and having trouble making this decision. My daughters father is absent from her life (his own choice, rubbish excuse). We both planned our daughter and we split when I was 3 months pregnant (he was abusive). He's never paid a penny towards my little girl including birthdays and christmas'. I feel he should be made responsable, and the biggest reason FOR making him pay child support is purely a reminder of her exsistence. But I've managed so far to provide for her by myself. Child support or not?
