Wireless adapter question please help?

I am having trouble with my laptop. I had to completely start over and I lost the cd that recognizes the wireless adapter I have already inside my laptop. I have went on Lenovo and downloaded the proper software so that my computer will recognize it. However, it still is not picking it up. Are there any special instructions I need to do to be able to get my computer to recognize the new software for the laptop? I have a T40 thinkpad by the way.
